THURSINA IIBS OF HOLISTIC AND BALANCING EDUCATION
The rapid development of science and technology has changed the civilization of the world, the social environment and even our families and children. Changes and challenges we cannot avoid because it has become the sunnatullah we have to face.
As parents and Muslims, it is our responsibility to educate and prepare our children to be Muslims who are submissive to the teachings of Islam and at the same time ready to face such changes and challenges. As God says:
“And let those fear as if they had left weak offspring behind and feared for them (that they would be exposed to injustice). So let them fear Allah and speak words of justice.” (QS. An-Nisa: 9)
One of the strategic efforts in building a strong generation is to provide the best education. Education is expected to provide a good dye (shibghah) by organizing educational programs that can form spiritual and emotional maturity, sharpness of thought, and commendable integrity. However, not all educational institutions are able to provide sufficient provision so that the existing generation still tends to be weak, lacks confidence, and has not been able to compete both at the national and global level.
In an effort to respond to this concern, Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) comes with the hope of becoming an educational institution capable of preparing our children and generations of Muslims to stand firm and confident in facing the changing and challenging times by organizing holistic, balanced, and well-managed programs. The philosophy of the educational process in Thursina can be seen in the following diagram.
Holistic Education
Holistic education is a multidimensional educational paradigm that underlies the educational process in Thursina. Allah SWT has equipped our children with the right nature (fithrah) of trust, intellectual and skillful intelligence, positive emotions, high integrity, and strong physical abilities. All of these potentials will evolve according to the education we provide.
Ideal education should be able to facilitate the development of this basic potential maximally and thoroughly. However, existing educational practices tend to be partial and dichotomous, which inhibits the full development of children. In Western countries, education tends to be secular — producing generations that are intelligent and creative, but weak spiritually and materialistic. In contrast, education in many Muslim countries tends to be dogmatic and conservative, resulting in generations that are less competent, less creative, and less confident.
Education in Thursina seeks to improve both paradigms by making the Qur’an and Hadith the foundation and center of all educational processes. Students follow a thorough and balanced learning process (ta’lim), character formation (ta’dib), and self-purification (tazkiyah) through daily worship programs.
Balanced Education
The educational process and objectives in Thursina are also conducted in a balanced way. Balance (at-tawazun) is one of the noble principles of Islamic teachings. In the context of education, this principle means providing a comprehensive curriculum and ensuring the process is proportional to human nature — aiming for happiness in this world and the hereafter. As the Word of Allah SWT:
وَابْتَغِ فِيمَا آتَاكَ اللَّهُ الدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ وَلَا تَنْسَ نَصِيبَكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَأَحْسِنْ كَمَا أَحْسَنَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ وَلَا تَبْغِ الْفَسَادَ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُفْسِدِينَ
“And seek the Abode of the Hereafter in that which Allah has given you, and do not forget your portion of this world. Do good as Allah has been good to you, and do not seek corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not love the corrupters.” (QS. Al-Qasas: 77)
Despite applying a diverse curriculum, the education process in Thursina maintains balance, psychological stability, and physical health. Students are given time for worship, study, recreation, communication with family, and rest. Such balance fosters strong, confident, and successful individuals.
Curriculum and Relevant Teaching Method
Thursina continuously develops its curriculum and teaching methods to remain relevant and effective. The curriculum includes Al-Qur’an, diniyah, national subjects, self-development, and international programs.
Teachers and murabbi are encouraged to teach using modern yet prophetic methods — engaging, effective, and tailored to students’ conditions and learning styles — while constantly improving their skills through training programs.
As Ali bin Abi Talib advised, “Teach your children according to the conditions of their time.” This guides us to adapt our teaching content and methods according to current and future challenges.
Campus and Modern Management
To realize holistic, high-quality education, Thursina implements effective and accountable management supported by trustworthy leadership.
From the aspect of supporting facilities, Thursina provides modern and conducive living and learning environments. The design harmonizes aesthetics, safety, and functionality to support study, socialization, and recreation.
Effective management at Thursina emphasizes clear planning, implementation, and continuous evaluation. Allah reminds us of the importance of planning our deeds carefully:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلْتَنْظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
“O you who believe! Fear Allah, and let every soul consider what it has sent forth for tomorrow. And fear Allah; surely Allah is All-Aware of what you do.” (QS. Al-Hashr: 18)
This verse teaches us to plan and evaluate every action thoughtfully. Effective planning and strategy management are crucial in achieving goals — especially in teaching and administration.
Thursina’s management also upholds accountability (amanah) and transparency. Every task is carried out sincerely, responsibly, and openly to both stakeholders and Allah SWT.
By adhering to these principles, the entire Thursina community works with sincerity and high work ethics, knowing that every action is evaluated and accountable before both people and Allah SWT.
In summary, Thursina’s education and management are guided by the principles of holistic, balanced, relevant, and modern approaches — forming Muslim generations who are morally excellent, inspiring, and globally minded. Aamiin ya Rabbal 'Alamiin.
